About US - History

G. B. Memorial Institution was established by Late Samar Mitra, an eminent social worker, with the aim of expanding quality education facilities among all sections of the people living in the vast areas of Behala. The school started as a Nursery and Kindergarten school way back in 1983, and then grew from there to emerge as a Higher Secondary School. Under the able guidance of Smt. Bhagabati Mitra, the erstwhile Giribala Nursery School emerged into today’s G.B.M.I., with thousands of students, and successful alumnus, who have progressed into their career leveraging the solid foundation developed at G.B. M. I.

The school was first recognized by West Bengal Board of Secondary Education as a Junior High School, then earned recognition from West Bengal Board of Secondary Education as a Secondary (Madhyamik) school. Students from the school emerged with flying colours in the Madhyamik Examination right from Year – 1, earning high scores in all subjects. The school was subsequently recognized by West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education to teach students for Higher Secondary (Uchcha Madhyamik) in Science, Arts and Commerce Streams
